This is literally my first maxi dress since I was 8 years old and had one in jersey tie-dye. I probably wouldn’t have even bought it, except I drove past Urban Outfitters, saw they were doing an extra 50% off their sale items, and figured, “well, hey, I just got paid.” I actually managed to leave with only three things, including this boldly patterned dress.
I think I’ve already mentioned that I’m not someone who is normally drawn to bright colors or bold patterns, but I’ve got a soft spot for paisley type designed. I added on this thrifted leather belt, and somehow ended up wearing the same outfit all weekend.
Additionally, it pairs fantastically with this vintage, 1970s coat my mom got me for my birthday last year. I haven’t pulled this puppy out of the closet much since May, because the weather’s been too warm. But I’ve also been a little bit stumped on how to style it. It’s fantastically retro, but that means it pairs oddly with my typical outfits.
These two are the ultimate combination though. How great do they go together? I feel straight out of the movie Almost Famous. And you got to have confidence to wear this coat. It is BIG. Truly a fantastic find at the Alameda Antique Faire and the best possible birthday gift I could have asked for. It’s wonderful having a mom that totally shares my love of crazy clothes and costumes.
All in all, while this is a somewhat new look for me that’s a little out of my comfort zone, I love it! It’s fun to try out outfits that push your boundaries of what looks good and also what looks good on you.
