Okay, confession time: I’m an obsessive compulsive shaver. No, really. I’ve been shaving nearly every day for the past nine years. Occasionally I’ll skip a Sunday when I just don’t feel like showering, but otherwise it’s an essential part of my daily routine. It’s not really that I’m embarrassed about the stubble, although my hair is shockingly long and dark, especially on someone with such fair skin. What really gets me is the uncomfortable feeling that occurs when those scratchy hairs rub against the inside of my jeans or when I rub my hands along my arms and feel those annoying pricks of hair (yes, I truly do shave my arms daily, too).
The result is I have to deal with unsightly and itchy red bumps, especially on my shins and thighs. I don’t know how any women shave their bikini line, because all I get is horrible razor burn. I’ve had some success with exfoliating before shaving and I always wait in the shower for five minutes before shaving to let my hair fully dampen, but there didn’t seem to be much of a real solution other than trying a completely different method like waxing or laser hair removal (can you say expensive?).
Then I started hearing all about LUSH’s new product, D’Fluff Strawberry Shaving Soap. Rosie on Eat Read Glam originally reviewed it and got me interested. In the jar it’s more of a fluffy consistency like whipped cream, but when mixed with water, it becomes more of a thin soap. The strawberry smell isn’t anything to write home about, but the cocoa butter and coconut oil really make your legs soft and buttery. It’s been nearly 24 hours since I used it, and my legs are still bump-free.
You don’t need much, maybe only a tablespoon per leg, but I’m still a little worried that the 5.2 ounce jar at $16.95 won’t last more than a month, since I shave every day. That’s pretty costly considering a cheap bottle of shaving cream costs only a few dollars. Maybe I’ll see if it makes a big impact on my bikini line and just use it exclusively for that.
Despite the cost, this is the sort of fun, effective, organic/cruelty-free product we’ve come to expect from LUSH. (Did I mention that LUSH uses super fresh ingredients? The D’Fluff Shaving Soap contains fresh strawberries, egg whites, and maple sugar.) I see why people are raving about it.
