If it were possible to marry an accessory, I would happily pledge my hand to this scarf. I wear it nearly every day – in fact, I often need to talk myself out of wearing it. The funny thing is, when I saw it at the thrift store, I nearly didn’t buy it. With my already pinkish skin, bright pink isn’t normally a color that I look very good in. I actually don’t wear very many bright colors at all. But the great thing about a scarf, or any accessory, is that it’s small enough that you can be bold and bright, and it doesn’t dominate the outfit.
In fact, this whole outfit is kind of full of my “regulars.” After going nearly 5 years without ever putting on a sneaker, I bought a pair of versatile black Converse. They work perfectly with my boyfriend jeans, another item I didn’t wear much until recently. I think that adopting a dog and suddenly spending a lot of time walking and at the beach has caused me to want a more casual look in general. There’s nothing sillier than walking my wild looking mutt in velvet black stilettos.
I had always thought J.Crew was pretty preppy. And they are, I guess at some point I just decided that wasn’t such a bad thing. Last year I bought one of their Tippi Sweaters on sale… and then another one and then another one. I literally own about six of the exact same sweater in different colors. In moderately weathered Berkeley, it works fine in any temperature. Plus it can worn so many ways – with jeans or a skirt, with a collared shirt or a peter pan top, with a statement necklace or an overflowing scarf. You see why I bought so many, right?
That’s it for now, friends! What item is always making it into your outfits lately?
